ScreenHaven can work in areas with fast or slow bandwidth, but adjustments may need to be made to support slow bandwidth Publishers and Subscribers. The success of ScreenHaven depends on the receiving of high resolution screens more than the frequency. The worst case scenario is probably a 32 bit screen (millions of colours) of 1900x1200 pixel resolution produces a screen capture JPEG of about 500K per screen. Most slow broadbands can upload this image in about 5-10 seconds. Most broadbands are faster at download so once the initial batch of downloads is complete Subscribing should be less of a problem than Publishing.
Publisher
If you are experiencing slowness as a Publisher then click the Pause button to stop the screen sending. Click the Share tab. Set the popup to Portion of Screen and set the image to a small chunk of the screen. Set the Refresh ever setting to 30 seconds or more. Click the Start button to begin sharing again.
For extremely slow broadband connections click the Pause button to stop the screen sending. Reduce the screen size being transmitted if possible. Don’t press the Start button, but instead right-click the Comments window and choose ScreenSnap Current image to send just one screen image to the server then stop.
Subscriber
The first time you Subscribe to a Publisher’s screens there may be a delay of quite a few seconds while all the latest screens are cashed to your computer. There is no way to avoid this and once it is over the transfers should be much faster since it will only need to update the new screens. If you are experiencing slowness as a Subscriber after the initial download, then right-click the screen image window and choose Pause Updates. This will stop all new downloads. Right-click the screen again and choose Set Refresh Interval. Set the interval to 30 seconds or more. Click OK. Right-click the screen again and choose Resume Updates.
For extremely slow broadband connections right-click the screen image window and choose Pause Updates. Don’t resume the updates, but instead whenever you want the new screens then right-click on the screen image again and choose Refresh Now. This will download the latest screens once then stop. You will need to repeat this process periodically.
Warning: if you leave the period between automatic or manual downloads too long or the number of screens kept on the server is too low, you may miss out on downloading some of the screens.
